Issued to commemorate the Melbourne Centennial International Exhibition of 1888, marking the 100th anniversary of European settlement in Australia.
The medal retains an attractive full gilt appearance. Minor flaws include a small rim bruise at approximately 5 o’clock and a tiny test mark at 10 o’clock. The edge is engraved: “THE BABCOCK AND WILLCOX CO.”
A scarce and historically important exhibition medal, seldom encountered with gilt surfaces so well preserved.
